Rose Garden

The Rose Garden was established in 1978 with old roses from the estate of Howard Tenner. Periodically, additional antique roses were added in memory of several Glastonbury Garden Club members. Over the years, the bushes became overrun with suckers and had fewer and fewer blooms. In 2023, the Glastonbury Historical Society planned a redesign of the the Welles Shipman Ward House property. This new design included a second rose garden. They approached the Horticulture Co-Chairs of The Glastonbury Garden Club with the idea of removing the old roses and
incorporating the existing rose bed with the new one including an arbor between them. The roses for both gardens were donated by The Glastonbury Garden Club and both gardens are maintained by its members. Eventually, an arbor will be installed as part of the property renovations.
