The Glastonbury Garden Club
Garden Therapy
The Carol Hilton Garden Therapy program committee works in conjunction with area nursing homes to assist residents in a variety of plant-related crafts and activities.
Committee members bring plants to two health care facilities in town. Plant pots are decorated with stickers by the residents with the help of committee members, and a bow and a sign as to the care of the plant are added.
These activities develop an association with the hospitalized patients. A sense of accomplishment is achieved by the patient with the finished product. This accomplishment continues as the patient watches the plant grow and cares for the plant. It also adds a living plant in the patient’s room. Also, for some patients, it might bring back memories of plants and gardens they may have had in the past.
